The Poet's Daffodils are  the oldest members of the flower kingdom, a true heirloom species, very close to the true wild form. Most true species daffodils, the real 'wildflowers' that have been hybridized for years, are very small plants, but this one is strong and tall with large flowers. Since it is so ancient, it is one of the most perennial daffodils of them all. If it plant once, it will have them forever. For authentically wild' look, but also a spectacular display, this is the one.

Planting Daffodil bulbs:

• Be sure to plant daffodil bulbs with the pointy end up and the fatter, somewhat flattened end down.
•  Plant your daffodils twice as deep as the bulb is tall. In other words, if a bulb is 2 inches (5 cm.) from the base to the tip, you would dig a 6-inch (15 cm.) deep hole to put the bulb 4 inches (10 cm.) below the soil level.
• Deep planting helps prevent frost heave and protects the bulbs from accidental damage from spades and rakes. Plant the bulbs more deeply in sandy soil, and more shallowly in heavier, clay-type soils.
• If  it will want to cover the bulbs with soil and then water them well after you’re finished planting them. Combining them with other kinds of plants such as perennials, annuals, and shrubs will make your garden a livelier and more interesting place.

Planting

• For planting crown imperial, first depth at least 4 inches (10 cm).

• Just remember that the planting depth is more or less always 3 times as deep as the bulb is tall, that’s why it varies from 4 to 8 inches (10 to 20 cm) in depth. Space each bulb 16 inches (40 cm) apart.

• This plant is a perennial and will bloom again from one year to the next.
• Prefer rich and well-drained soil because crown imperial detests sitting water.
• Adding organic matter (bulb plant fertilizer) upon planting is a good idea.Crown imperial loves high sun exposure.

• In order to extend its lifespan and see the flowers bloom innumerable and luminous, regenerate the bulbs every 2 or 3 years.

Caring

The crown imperial requires rich soil, which is why should fertilize the ground whenever notice that the plant is diminishing in vigor.

As for watering, it will only be needed in case of extended dry spell, but since the flowering usually takes place in spring, this is really exceptional in temperate climates.

Cardinal Flower: Description and growing tips

Cardinal Flower, a hummingbird favorite,  late summer with tall, vivid red flower  that add bold color to the late-season garden. Native to North America, it thrives in partially-shaded areas with moist soil and will naturalize if conditions are favorable. Tolerates deer. (Lobelia cardinalis)

It is so beautiful it is over picked and now quite rare in some areas. However, if conditions are right (wet, mostly) it will grow easily, even in full sun, but is usually found as a woodland beauty along streambanks or near ponds where the soil is always moist. It is even happy growing right in the shallow water of small creeks and brooks.

Growing

This wild beauty is one that  must watch, and you'll learn to love it. It grows quickly and easily, but it has two very powerful enemies--people who love to pick it, destroying the display, and either too little or too much (rushing) water.

 Cardinal Flower is a short lived perennial but if conditions are good it will return many years
It is not difficult to grow at all, it is simply difficult to maintain a clump of plants over the years, unless it will attentive,sun or shade, the most important item is the moisture. The roots should never really dry out. We had many growing along a small brook in the middle of a wooded garden . All went well, and the plants performed with bigger and bigger flower spikes each year, until it had a spring flood one year. The brook raged out of its banks, and the rushing water uprooted all the plants and swept them away. So that year, we had to start over with new plants. They have very shallow roots, and come out of the mud easily.
