Drumstick Germination ,Growing ,Care, Use and its Surprising Health Benefits.

Moringa oleifera is the most widely cultivated species of the genus Moringa, which is the only genus in the family Moringaceae. Moringa seeds are annually produced in Asia.It needs full sunlight. They come with their very own wings to ensure the wind carries them to fertile grand far away from the parent plant. These need warmth and shelter and are best started in pots or flats and planted out in favoured spots after the soil has warmed.

SPECIFICATION OF MORINGA

Season: Annual

Environment: Full sun
Soil Type: Loamy, well-drained, pH 6.1 - 7.8
Temperature: 75 - 80F
Average Germ Time: 14 - 21 days

Moisture: Keep seeds moist until germination

MORINGA SEED GERMINATION

Moringa seeds have wings and are about the size of a large pea. Seeds don’t need sunlight in order to germinate. Here are some suggestions on germination. There are several methods of germinating seeds. Some methods may work better depending on the microclimate.

Use a flat seedling tray and its deep will be 5 centimetres. Make sure you have plenty of holes in it for good water drainage.Take equal quantity of sand, soil and vermicompost. Then mix all the three ingredients into one container.

Sprinkle diluted fungicide water (2gm in 1 litre water) after sowing the seeds. We have to care about putting the seed because seeds will not go deep into the mixture.

1. Soak the seeds for 24 hours. Remove the seeds from the solution.
2. Put the seeds in a plastic sandwich bag and store in a warm, dark place like a drawer or cabinet. Germination times range from 3-14 days.
 3. Check them every two days. Wait for sprouting.

4.When sprout plant the seeds about the ¾ inch beneath the soil surface with the ruffled extremity to the sun. Plant the sprouted seed in a high-quality potting soil. Sandy loamy soils will work well also.
Use a pot that is at least 18 inches deep if this is the final home for the tree.

Moringa loves the sun so make sure they get plenty. Although the tree is drought tolerant, they may be watered daily, just don’t allow the roots to get soaked for extended periods of time.

5. Wait and let the potted plants grow at least 8 weeks or longer before transplanting to the ground. When transplanting try not to disturb the root system at all. Like many plants, the roots are very vulnerable until they are established in the ground.

6. You can always sow the seeds in the ground or a large pot and water. W

Minimum warm, above 60ºF (15.5ºC), is needed inside the container and it should be placed in the sunny area. After that, the whole thing should be covered with a poly bag and after 21 days later the plastic can be removed.

Check them every two days. Once the seeds have broken loose from the winged shell, you will notice two shoots protruding from the seed.

BENEFITS OF DRUMSTICK

Drumstick has the following benefits-

1. Moringa is an excellent source of protein.

2.The seeds are used to treat allergies, inflammation, bacteria, neuralgia, abdominal tumours, and fever.

3.Moringa leaf can increase breast milk production in the early period after childbirth.

4.It is also a rich source of iron having almost three-fourths of the amount present in spinach leaves.
