Kochuri Pana/ Water hyacinth
Kochuri pana is commonly known as Water Hyacinth,native to India and South-east Asia. Its origin is South America. Then spread out all over the world. Water hyacinth may rise above the surface of the water as much as 1 meter in height. The leaves are broad, thick, glossy, ovate in shape are 10–20 cm across on a stem which is floating above the water surface. Root is fibrous, freely hanging, purple-black in color. The flower of this plant develop on a spike and have six individual petals that join at the bottom to produce a tube-like bloom. The colour of these flowers vary from a lighter shade of blue to violet.

Water hyacinths need full sun and hot summer temperatures. The growth of hyacinth is very fast. They are best grown as annuals in places where cold winters keep them in check by killing them back. In warmer areas, these plants do become invasive. It can be planted indoors in a sunny spot in overwinter , but they are inexpensive to replace each year. Most gardeners don’t find them worth the trouble to keep over winter.

Uses:
- One of the most widely used of water hyacinth is composting. Which is used as a fertilizer or fish feed. A large quantity of inorganic nitrogen and phosphorus accumulates in the roots, which makes it suitable as a compost or inorganic fertilizer.
- Water hyacinths could also be made into clothes for casual wear, cocktails, and long gowns.
- Another application of water hyacinth is the production of fibreboards for a variety of end uses.
