Health benefits of Arbi or Taro root



Description:

Colocasia esculenta is a perennial, tropical plant primarily grown as a root vegetable for its edible starchy corm, and as a leaf vegetable. This plant and its root is generally called taro, but it has different names in different countries such as dasheen, Chinese potato, cocoyam, curcas, dalo, mukhi, kochu, arbi and so on. It belong from the Araceae (aroid) family that can be identified by its frilly, heart-shaped leaves that grow at the end of long and stout petioles, resembling an elephant’s ear. The taro plant can grow anywhere, at the height of 5-6 feet. The Taro plant is a good source of fiber, protein, vitamins A, C and B6, thiamin, copper, calcium, folate and more. The taro root is usually long shaped, with a brown and fibrous (sometimes hairy) skin.
