"Paan" the name is popularly known in India which is also called betel vine leaf is generally used as an ingredient in mouth fresheners and as an antiseptic in various herbal medicines.There are more than 90 varieties of betel vine in the world, of which about 45 are found in India and 30 varieties in West Bengal itself. The leaves are deep green colour and heart shape. It is grown in tropic and subtropics. For its ever green leaves this is used in pooja and religious events in India.

Growing Tips:• Grow the Betel plant in October in India, as this is the best time to grow the plant under the open system cultivation.
• Plant other support plants in order to provide shade for the Betel plant. Or else, build rectangular structures that can serve as artificial support or shade.
• Maintain proper drainage during the rainy season.
• Pluck the mature Betel leaves by hand during the harvest season. Wash and clean the harvested leaves according to their quality and size.
• Use manure and fertilizers during Betel leaf cultivation. Apply them in four to six split doses and with an interval of two to three months.
