Oregano: The Herbal plant, Description and its Health Benefits


                                          Oregano
Oregano is a perennial herb and flowering plant in the mint family. It is native to temperate Western and Southwestern Eurasia and the Mediterranean region. Oregano is a perennial herb, growing from 20–80 cm tall, with opposite leaves 1–4 cm long. The flowers are purple, 3–4 mm long, produced in erect spikes.

Growing Tips:

Oregano loves the sun, so ensure that the placement has full, strong sun for strong flavor. Some plant likes later in the season for assured warm weather.
Oregano can easily be started from seeds, though you can also use cuttings from an established plant.
Plant the seeds or cuttings in well-drained soil anytime. The soil should be around 70ºF.
For thin plants, plant 8 to 10 inches apart. The plants will grow 1 to 2 feet tall and spread about 18 inches.
Seeds should be started indoors prior to the region’s. There’s no need to cover oregano herb seeds with soil. Simply mist them with water and cover the seed tray or container with plastic. Place this in a sunny location such as a window to germinate. Oregano seeds usually germinate within about a week or so. Once the seedlings have reached approximately 6 inches tall, the plants can be thinned down to about a foot apart.
Oregano makes a good companion plant for any vegetable in the garden.
