The coconut tree is a member of the palm tree family. One of tallest palm tree Coconut plant is a fruit, houseplant. In Bengali it is known as “Narikel” and scientific name of this plant is “Cocos nucifera”. This fruit is called drupe, not a nut because it has white colored and hardy, thick layer covers flesh. This fruit is used for traditional reason, commercial reason and used as food, every parts of this plant is usable.

Planting and Growing tips

1.At first, mix the  planting soil. Use a mixture of half potting soil and half sand. Also add some fine gravel or vermiculite to help aerate the soil.

For outside planting, do not need to use premixed soil. Find a place outside that has loose, well-draining soil.

2.Put the germinated coconut in the soil. Place the nut into the soil with the pointed end down. Make sure that 1/3 of the coconut sticks out of the soil.

For inside planting , use a pot that is at least 10 inches (25 cm) deep and has a diameter large enough to accommodate the seed.

3.Give the  coconut tree plenty of water and sunlight. Water the tree at least 2 times per week so the soil is moist but not too wet. Make sure that the tree gets lots of light, but not constant brightness. Some shade is preferable.

4.For outdoor plants,make a mini greenhouse. Put bamboo stakes into the ground around the tree. Wrap plastic wrap around the sticks and across the top. Remove the greenhouse when the tree is 1 foot (0.30 m) tall.

Keep indoor trees moist by spraying both sides of the leaves with water.

Coconut plant grows in semi-tropical climate and loves temperate weather. For its healthy growing, it needs full sunlight and height of this plant depends on sunlight. If it grows in full sunlight its height can be very tall. It needs moist and well-drained soil, for moist soil it needs regular watering twice or trice in a week in young time of this plant. In mature time of this plant reduced watering can’t be affected on its growth. It needs liquid fertilizer for its well growth.
